As a personal trainer, the two things I deal with most are influencing people's weight, whether this is to gain or lose weight, and to help improve people's general health, wellbeing and energy.
Weight change has one primary influence - Energy balance. Your energy balance is your calorie intake vs your calorie expenditure.
To put simply
If your calorie intake is greater than your calorie expenditure, then you will gain weight.
If your calorie intake is less than your calorie expenditure, then you will lose weight.
If your calorie intake is equal to calorie expenditure, you will maintain your weight.
Calculate your calories today and make sure you are fuelling your goals!
This a simple approach to calculating calories, I personally use a much more detailed
and individualised approach. I look at many more factors for both my Beyond and
BetterSelf systems. However, as a base guideline to get started this number
will be acceptable.
Macronutrients, or macros for short, are substances required by the body in large quantities. When you people in the fitness world talk about macros, they are usually just talking about three sources of energy: fat, protein and carbohydrates.
How do your macros influence your results?
Whilst the sum total of your macros are responsible for weight change, the relative amount of each macro intake influences changes in your body composition.
Getting your macros balanced for your goals will seriously boost your results.
